Web Extras - Strasburg John Deere Collection

We find the most interesting things when we get lost. Colorado Life Photo Editor Joshua Hardin took a wrong turn on a recent visit to Strasburg on the Eastern Plains only to stumble upon the site of one of the 20th century’s most important inventions. Hardin was across town from where he’d meant to be when he saw a field filled with dozens of antique John Deere tractors. Stopping to take some photos, he was greeted by a friendly golden retriever, followed soon by its equally friendly owner, Russ Engelbrecht, who emerged from his workshop on the property. Engelbrecht talked a little about his collection, which is 60 tractors strong, or maybe 460, if you count all the toy tractors, and the remains of the world’s first center-pivot irrigation system.
